Remembering Wangari Maathai

I just sent this blast:

Please join in remembering Prof Wangari Maathai, our fallen comrade.

Kenya’s General Elections and Wangari Maathai Day

On 3rd March, the eve of Kenya’s General Elections, Kenyans will be preparing to usher in a new era. We will also be remembering Professor Wangari Maathai as this day is Africa Environment Day and Wangari Maathai Day. We will be reflecting on peace and unity during this time and her selfless commitment to democracy and peace.
[A]s political leaders play their role, citizens should refrain from violence. All 42 communities in Kenya are bound by geography and history to live as neighbors.… Let us stand up for each other, irrespective of our ethnic backgrounds and political persuasions. Injustice to one is injustice to all of us. If we, individually and collectively, are not the conscience of our country, then who is?
During this election period the Green Belt Movement (GBM) is working with peace building committees in the Rift Valley to monitoring early warning systems in an area which experienced large-scale violence in the last elections. GBM is also running a community education scheme on peace building to recognise the collective force of communities in building bridges and tolerance.
